Make an anagram of your name

Type your name the way you would write it; spaces and punctuation do not matter. Results that use fewer words come first, and among those, phrases made of everyday words rank higher. Found a word you love? Tap it. It stays in every result and the maker rearranges only the letters that are left, so you can build your anagram one word at a time.

Worked example: ISAAC NEWTON

ISAAC NEWTON has 11 letters. With the default of up to 3 words, the maker finds 530 anagrams, and the top three are contains awe, actions anew and oceans twain. Say you like ACTIONS. Tap it, and the maker keeps it and rearranges only the letters left over (A, E, W, N). That narrows the list to 6, such as actions anew, actions wane and actions wean. Press Share on the one you like best.

Why some names have more anagrams

Every letter you add opens up more ways to split the letters into words. JANE AUSTEN has 10 letters and 9 anagrams of up to 3 words; CHARLES DICKENS has 14 letters and 2,086. Rare letters matter too: of the 33,976 common US English words the maker builds phrases from, 65% contain an E but only 7% contain a J, Q, X or Z, so a name with one of those has fewer choices. If your name gives only a handful of results, add your middle name or try the name friends call you.

What makes a good name anagram

The ranking finds phrases made of everyday words, but only you know which one fits. The best name anagrams say something about the person: a hobby, a job, a joke your friends will get. Read past the first few results, tap a word that suits the person, and let the maker rearrange the rest around it. Two or three words usually read better than four or five, so the maker starts with up to 3.

Share it

Press Share next to a result to see a card that reads "your name is an anagram of" the phrase you picked, with our site name underneath and nothing else. Download the image (1200 by 630 pixels) for social media, or share the link: it opens this page with the same name and highlights your anagram at the top. On a phone, Share link opens your phone's share menu; elsewhere it copies the link so you can paste it into a message.

Tips for a better name anagram

Your name stays on your device

The anagrams are worked out in your browser, and the maker does not send your name anywhere. Your name does appear in the page address, which is what makes a shared link work; our privacy policy explains what that means.

FAQ

How do I make an anagram of my name?

Type your full name. Anagramify rearranges every letter into words and phrases, with the most natural ones first. Tap a word you like to keep it and rearrange the rest.

Can I share my anagram?

Yes. Press Share next to any result to get an image you can download and a link that opens the same anagram for your friends.

Why are there no results for my name?

Short names or names with rare letters (like Q, X or Z) have few anagrams. Add your middle name, allow more words in Options, or try a nickname.

Is my name stored anywhere?

No. The anagrams are made on your device and the maker does not send your name anywhere. Your name does appear in the page address so you can share the link; see our privacy policy for details.
