How to use the anagram solver
Type the letters you have, from 1 to 15, in any order and in upper or lower case. Results appear as you type, grouped by length with the longest words first. Words that use every one of your letters sit at the top in their own box, because those are the answers to most anagram puzzles. Tap any word to copy it, or press one of the example buttons to see the solver at work.
What counts as an anagram?
Strictly, an anagram uses all the letters of a word in a new order: LISTEN, SILENT and TINSEL are anagrams of each other. Word games need more than that, so the solver also lists the shorter words hidden in your letters. LISTEN has 6 full anagrams in our US list (ELINTS, ENLIST, INLETS, LISTEN, SILENT, TINSEL) and 91 words in all once shorter ones are counted, as the example below shows.
Worked example: one blank tile
Have a blank tile or a letter you cannot read? Type a question mark. With SILEN? the solver finds 654 words. 40 of them use all six tiles, because the blank can become any letter: common ones include SINGLE (? = G), LISTEN (? = T), SILENT (? = T), ALIENS (? = A). Below that box come the shorter words: 149 with 5 letters, 253 with 4 letters, 163 with 3 letters, 49 with 2 letters. In every word the letter the blank stands for is underlined, and it scores zero, just as a blank does on the board.
Options for Scrabble and crossword players
Open Options to switch between using some of your letters (for Scrabble and Words With Friends) and using all of them (for Jumble and other anagram puzzles). You can also ask for words that start or end with certain letters, contain a group of letters, or fit a pattern: E_O finds three-letter words with E first and O last. Min and max length keep only words of the size you need, handy when a crossword asks for exactly seven letters. Sort by Scrabble or Words With Friends score to find your best play.
How scores are counted
The number next to each word is its face value: the letter values added up, as printed on the tiles. Bonus squares are not counted, because the solver cannot see your board. Scores use Scrabble letter values unless you sort by Words With Friends score. The two games mostly agree, but not everywhere: J is worth 8 in Scrabble and 10 in Words With Friends, and H is worth 4 and 3. PLAYERS, one of the examples, scores 12 with Scrabble values and 13 with Words With Friends values.
US or UK English?
The solver picks US or UK spelling from your browser's language and remembers your choice. US English has 185,681 words and UK English 188,100. 2,613 words, such as FAVOURITE and KILOMETRE, are only in the UK list and 194 only in the US list; All words combines both (188,294). The lists come from ENABLE and SCOWL, open word lists anyone may reuse, not from a tournament dictionary. Words many people find offensive are folded away under "Show hidden words", so they never appear by surprise.
Tips
- Solving an anagram puzzle? Read the "Uses all letters" box first; it usually holds the answer.
- Playing a word game? Sort by score, then pick the best word that also fits the board.
- Want to build on a letter already on the board? Add it to your letters and set Contains to it.
- Too many results? Set a minimum length, or switch to using all of the letters.
- Nothing found? Add a ? for the letter you are missing.
- Want to keep a search? The page address holds your letters and options, so you can bookmark it or send it on.

FAQ
What is an anagram solver?
An anagram solver takes a set of letters and lists every word you can spell with them. Type the letters, and Anagramify shows the words grouped by length, longest first, with the words that use every letter at the top.
How do blank tiles work?
Type ? (or *) for each blank, up to 2. A blank can stand for any letter. Letters filled by a blank are underlined and score zero, as in Scrabble.
Which dictionary does the solver use?
US English has 185,681 words, UK English 188,100 and All words 188,294. They are built from open word lists (ENABLE and SCOWL), not from the official tournament dictionaries, so a few words accepted in a tournament may be missing.
What is the biggest set of anagrams in the word list?
In US English the letters AELRST and AEPRS each make 11 words. For AELRST, they include ALERTS, ALTERS, SALTER.
What are the longest anagrams?
The longest words that are anagrams of each other in US English have 18 letters: PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL and PHYSIOPATHOLOGICAL, and MICROPHOTOGRAPHIES and PHOTOMICROGRAPHIES.
Are my letters sent anywhere?
No. The solving happens on your device: your browser downloads the word list once (712 KB), and nothing you type is sent by the tool. Your letters do appear in the page address so you can bookmark or share a search; see our privacy policy for what that means.
